Something you may or may not know about me is that I love Harry Potter. I was one of those kids who waited at the store for the midnight release of the books, and I went to most of the movie premiers. When one of my friends at work suggested having a birthday party for Harry Potter I was definitely on board. We used our lunch breaks as planning meetings. It felt like we talked about if for weeks. When the day finally arrived I could hardly contain my excitement.
Our party was complete with potions, spiders, Hedwig, and the sorting hat.
To start the night off we were sorted into houses! I made little sorting hats that were filled with M&M’s that were the house colors. We listened to the sorting hats message from the first book then we each selected a hat and popped it open. I was the only one who got sorted into Slytherin.
We made all of the activities for the rest of the evening a competition between the houses. We awarded house points when a team did well.
We had a Hogwarts themed dinner with Basilisk calzones and “House Salad.” We watched the first movie while we ate dinner. No Harry Potter themed meal would be complete without Butterbeer. We decided to add dry ice to it, and it was definitely a good decision.
We also had some classic treats like Chocolate Frogs, Acid Pops, and broomstick popcorn.
After dinner we played a few games. One of the funniest ones was pin the scar on Harry.
We played a version of Who am I? I had some really hard people, but it was a good time watching everybody trying to figure out who they were.
We had a little mini Potter crash our party for a bit! We could not get enough of him in his cute glasses.
We ended the night with a water color craft and birthday cake. We painted quotes from the books. I chose one from Hagrid, “What’s coming will come and we’ll meet it when it does.” It was a great night with wonderful friends. Happee Birthday Harry, ’til next year!
