Jesse and I met the summer before our senior year of high school. He was dating someone at the time, so I didn’t think of him as anything more than a friend. We became better friends as the school year went on. When it came time for our senior prom Jesse asked me to go with him.
After that we hung out all the time! We dated for almost 5 months before he left to serve an LDS mission. We went to almost every movie that came out that summer. Saying goodbye to him was definitely one of the harder things I’ve had to do in my life.
Jesse’s family invited me over to talk to him on Christmas and mother’s day. I also went out with his mom and sisters a few times while he was gone. Jesse and I wrote each other a letter almost every week. We sent each other packages for birthdays and Christmas, and we would send pictures every now and then. They always made it seem like Jesse wasn’t quite so far away.
During his mission, I stayed busy with school and my roommates. I tried to stay busy and live my life to the fullest while he was away. The day he came home I was so excited and so nervous! When we saw each other for the first time it almost felt like he had never left. We saw each other every day after he came home. Our first official date when he was back was the first Saturday he was home. It was a little awkward, I’ll be honest The next few weeks flew by, and were better than I could have imagined.
Soon enough we were talking marriage. It happened a little faster than I thought it would. We got engaged at the Oquirrh Mountain temple where we were later married. I saw Jesse down on one knee and said yes before he even had the chance to ask me. It was a wonderful day.
Jesse came home in September and we were engaged in December. We had a 5 month engagement. If I could do it again I would have a shorter one. We were married May 2, 2014. That is one of my favorite days of my life to date.
Ever since we have been taking life as it comes and trying to love every minute. Two years later and we are still crazy about each other. We decided that we will be newlyweds forever.
